A Church Striving to Love Like Jesus
At Versailles United Methodist Church, we stand within the historic Christian faith while living it out in practical, everyday ways. Our beliefs are rooted in Scripture, affirmed in the Apostles’ Creed, and expressed through a life of loving like Jesus.
We believe God is the all-loving, mysterious yet deeply personal Creator of the universe.
God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three persons and yet one God.
God created the world, sustains it in love, and continues to work in and through creation today.
God is both beyond our full understanding and intimately near to us.
We believe Jesus is Lord.
Not our politics.
Not our preferences.
Not our past or our fears about the future.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came among us, lived a life of perfect love, died on the cross for the salvation of the world, and was raised from the dead.
His life, death, and resurrection show us the way to live — loving God and loving our neighbors.
We believe that the Holy Spirit empowers ordinary people for extraordinary purposes.
The Spirit is not reserved for the super-spiritual. Anyone who says yes to Jesus is given spiritual gifts and the power to participate in God’s work.
The Holy Spirit guides us, strengthens us, convicts us, comforts us, and sends us into the world as Christ’s hands and feet.
We believe God moves through people.
The Church is not just a building or an institution — it is the community of people called to live out God’s love in the world.
Together we worship, grow in faith, serve our neighbors, and discover the purpose God has placed within us.
We believe we are better together, and that God calls every person into a life of love, service, and discipleship.
We believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promise of new life.
Jesus truly died, and God raised him to life. Because of this, death and brokenness do not have the final word.
Resurrection is woven into the very rhythm of God’s creation —
light after darkness,
hope after despair,
new life after loss.
Through Christ, God is renewing the world and promises that life will ultimately overcome death.
We believe God’s Kingdom is both present and coming.
It is breaking into the world whenever love triumphs over hate, justice rises for the oppressed, enemies become neighbors, and the forgotten are welcomed at the table.
God’s Kingdom does not belong to any nation, culture, or political system.
It belongs to God.
We are called to live now as citizens of that Kingdom — loving, serving, forgiving, and seeking justice in the name of Jesus.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
These sacred writings tell the story of God’s relationship with humanity and point us to the Living Word, Jesus Christ.
Scripture shapes our faith and guides our lives.
It invites us to read, reflect, wrestle, ask questions, and grow in understanding as we follow Christ.
Because of what we believe, we strive to live simply:
Love God.
Love people.
Love like Jesus.
As followers of Christ, we commit ourselves to growing as disciples and participating in God’s mission in the world.
