Assistant Pastor: Rev. Rebecca Peterson (Becky) was born in Indianapolis, IN, to Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Shannon. Becky and her four sisters grew up in the church. Her dad was a United Methodist pastor until he died in 1981. Becky’s husband, Dr. Michael Peterson, is an author and a professor of philosophy at Asbury Theological Seminary.
Her oldest son, Aaron, and his wife, Melissa, live in Versailles. Aaron and Melissa have an 4-year-old son, Mason, 2-year-old twins – Daisy and Brody, and baby Ruby. They are all adorable and add so much joy to life! Adam, Becky’s youngest, lives in Lexington and works for Provations, a print and electronic media business. Adam is married to Claire Brown Peterson who teaches Philosophy at Asbury University.
Becky worked at the Wilmore United Methodist Church as the Christian Education Director for 13 years. She then took a position as Program Director at Trinity Hill United Methodist in Lexington. She has been at the Versailles United Methodist Church for fourteen years as the Assistant Pastor and Minister to Adults. She loves the people and the staff here!
Becky graduated from Asbury University; she taught high school English at Jessamine County High School for five years. She received her MA from Georgetown College. In 1999 she became a Deacon in the United Methodist Church, and in 2000 she got her Christian Ministries degree from Asbury Theological Seminary.
She loves to read, travel and when she has time, she loves to entertain. But most of all, she loves building the kingdom through her work and relationships. She says, “I’m awed by the way God offers himself to us in creative ways every day, if we’re just paying attention!”
