As I watched our three WCHS graduates walk down the aisle this morning, it made me think back to our kids’ ‘first graduations’. We were charter members at the Academy when our daughter was just two. Our son joined soon after. For years, it was part of our everyday lives. At the end of their Academy days, they donned a cap and gown and walked down that same aisle. When I look at pictures of those little faces and remember the leaders and teachers at the Academy, I am so thankful for the love, care and peace that they provided our family in those busy, exhausting days with small children. Miss Penny and Miss Darlene, still love our kids. They congratulated Emily’s WCHS graduation last year and I imagine will do the same for Matthew at his, next year. The Academy was there at the beginning–teaching them verses, songs, prayers, introducing them to friends and books and letters. And the good news, it is still there today! Making a difference in the lives of many more families in our community. Please join me in saying a prayer of thanks to God for the leadership and staff at The Academy at VUMC. If you have the opportunity, give a word of encouragement for the work they are doing to care for a beautiful group of little ones! Better yet, schedule a day to rock an infant or read a story or attend chapel with the children! What a great way to show our support for The Academy at VUMC.
