“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
When my vehicle needs service, I go to one place and work with one person in customer service. My friend Kelli has a magical way of translating my poor explanation of “thingy” and “bumpy” into “you need new ball bearings”. She patiently takes the time to educate me about how car components work and describes the repair in detail to the point a ten-year-old can understand it.
Before I met Kelli, I would dread vehicle maintenance. Repeatedly, I would drop my car off, hear a bunch of terms I didn’t understand and write a check. If I worked up the courage to proclaim my ignorance and ask a question, the answer would be lengthy and contain even more terms I couldn’t comprehend. It was an incredibly stressful process.
There is a 100% guarantee in this life that we will struggle, experience stress and endure loss. We wrestle with the questions of how and why. Our protective instincts kick in and we micromanage our lives to prevent future pain and discomfort. We rely on our personal control of the situation to protect us when TRUTH proclaims that God is ultimately in control.
Cancer…Death…Divorce…Bankruptcy…the list is endless. Things that make our insides cringe with fear and anxiety are already in God’s hands. A friend recently affirmed to me that it’s pointless to lay awake at night and worry, because God is there staying awake all through the night taking care of all the worry for us.
When we need “life maintenance”, God will often challenge us to confront the tough questions. Our fundamental design is to seek wisdom and grow from experience. Life is meant to be lived within a “me too” community. Whether you’re a seeker wrestling with questions or you’ve passed through a storm and can guide someone on a similar journey, know that God can and will use you right where you are.
